Summer Skin Tips
Summer is here! Warm weather, vacations, trips to the beach and memories with
family and friends are just some of the things we can’t wait for. However, it is important to stay
mindful of skincare and skin health with all this fun in the sun! Here’s some ways to take care of your skin this summer:
Sunscreen
By now we have received the message that a daily application of SPF is one of the easiest ways to protect our skin from aging, burns, and irreversible damage such as wrinkles and dark spots. It can be tough to choose the right sunscreen here’s some help How to select a sunscreen (aad.org) It is recommended you use a minimum of 30 SPF and reapply as needed throughout the day.
Swimming
Swimming is a perfect summer pastime, keep your hair and skin healthy by trying this easy hack. Before diving in the deep end try to get your hair saturated with non chlorinated water, ring out any excess hydration. This ensures your hair is not soaking up pool chemicals that can strip your color and damage your hair.
As you exit the pool try to rinse your body off as quickly as you can, this way the pool chemicals don’t coat your skin and deplete your skin’s natural moisture. After a long day at the pool, I love to use a sugar scrub on my body followed by IS Clinical’s Youth Body Serum packed with firming antioxidants to soften, refresh and replenish your skin.
What can you do if you soaked up too much sun?
It happens to the best of us, a little too much fun in the sun leaves our skin looking a little angry. Start by cooling your skin down with a cold compress. Grab a cloth and soak it with cold water. Apply this to the affected area to bring your skin’s temperature down. Next apply your choice of Sheald Recovery Balm or our favorite Blue Sapphire Balm to your skin to heal and protect, start asap and apply often. Another item you may want to have on hand is a bottle of pure aloe vera gel this product is my go to for sunny summer months.
Staying Hydrated
On average our body is about 80% water. Despite our best efforts to drink up, our skin can still look and feel dehydrated. This is why I recommend one pump of the iS Clinical Hydra-Cool serum. This uber moisturizing serum is like a drink of water for your skin as it calms and cools hot and tired skin. If you feel like products on your face feel too sticky during the summer, Hydra-Cool can be used by everyone in place of a traditional moisturizer as a lightweight cooling hydrator in your skincare assortment.
Did you know our bodies do not make water so we have to topically apply it in order to have plump, youthful, hydrated skin we all seek. How do you know how much water you need? Below is a helpful chart to give you an idea of how much water we should be consuming daily. Let's see how your hydration habits stack up to this chart.
I hope this helped with some skincare tips for this summer! This hot and humid weather comes
with challenges, so it is key to stay informed on how to keep your skin healthy and beautiful. I
hope everyone has a safe and fun summer!
