Sunshine, Skin Health & the Power of Daily Protection.
Don’t avoid the sun, enjoy it, but protect your skin. Find out how below.
There’s something magical about a sunny day.
A little sunshine can lift our mood, encourage us to get outside, and help us feel more connected to the world around us. As someone who loves wellness, I believe nature is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. But just like many good things in life, the key is balance.
I love spending a little time in the sunshine, but I also know that protecting my skin today helps preserve its health, strength, and radiance for years to come.
The Sun: Friend and Foe
Sunlight plays an important role in our overall well-being. It can support healthy vitamin D levels, improve mood, and encourage movement and outdoor activity.
The challenge is that ultraviolet (UV) rays don't stop working once you've had enough sunshine. Over time, excessive exposure can contribute to:
Premature aging
Fine lines and wrinkles
Uneven pigmentation and sunspots
Loss of firmness
Skin cancer
Many people think a sunburn is the only sign of damage, but much of the aging we see in the skin develops slowly over time from daily, unprotected exposure.
The Areas People Forget Most
When applying SPF, most people remember their face.
But some of the first places to show signs of aging are actually the areas we often forget:
Hands
Ears
In front of the ears
Neck
Chest (décolleté)
These areas receive significant sun exposure throughout our lives and are often the biggest giveaway of age. If you're applying sunscreen to your face, take an extra 30 seconds to protect these often-overlooked areas as well.
My Favorite SPF Right Now
If you've spent any time at Halo Skin Solutions lately, you've probably heard me talking about the Solara Suncare collection.
I love it because it does more than simply protect from the sun.
Solara helps shield skin from:
UVA rays (the aging rays)
UVB rays (the burning rays)
Blue light exposure from screens and devices
As a busy woman, I appreciate products that multitask while supporting healthy, glowing skin. Clean ingredients, beautiful textures, and daily protection make it easy to stay consistent.
And consistency is where the magic happens.
Let's Bust a Few SPF Myths
One of the most common misconceptions I hear is:
"My makeup has SPF, so I'm covered."
Unfortunately, not exactly.
Most people would need to apply a much larger amount of foundation than they normally wear to receive the SPF protection listed on the bottle.

Another myth?
"I only need sunscreen on sunny days."
UV rays are present even on cloudy days and can pass through windows. Daily protection isn't just for beach days—it's a year-round skin health habit.
My Favorite Glow-Boosting Layering Trick
One of my signature Halo tips is layering hydration.
When skin is properly hydrated, it naturally appears healthier, smoother, and more radiant.
Try this simple glow ritual:
Start with a hydrating mist.
Apply a nourishing facial oil while the skin is still slightly damp.
Finish with moisturizer if needed.
This combination helps trap hydration in the skin while creating that beautiful, healthy-looking glow.
Think of it as giving your skin a tall glass of water and then sealing in all the goodness.
Too Much Sun? Here's What I Recommend
We've all had those days.
Maybe the beach was too enjoyable.Maybe the garden needed extra attention.Maybe the SPF wasn't reapplied often enough.
If your skin feels overheated, dehydrated, or stressed after sun exposure, focus on calming and replenishing.
At home:
Increase hydration
Use cooling, soothing products
Avoid aggressive exfoliation
Support the skin barrier
In the treatment room, one of my favorite recovery services is an Oxygen Youth Infusion Facial. It helps replenish hydration, calm stressed skin, and restore a healthy, refreshed appearance after environmental exposure.
Think of it as a cool drink of water for thirsty skin. Hydra-Cool is our favorite after sun skin cooling serum.

The Habit That Matters Most
If I could give you one piece of skincare advice, it would be this:
Be consistent and be kind to your skin.
Healthy skin isn't created through one perfect product or a single treatment. It's built through small daily habits repeated over time.
Cleanse.Treat.Hydrate.Protect.
Simple doesn't mean ineffective.
In fact, the most radiant skin I see often belongs to people who follow a consistent routine, protect themselves from unnecessary damage, and care for their skin with patience.
Enjoy the sunshine.
Take the walk.Sit on the patio.Laugh with friends.Create memories.
Just don't forget your SPF or the shade.
Your future skin will thank you.
